System Installation

Inverter
In order for the villagers to use the television and VCR the DC voltage from the batteries needed to be converted (also called inverted in this case) to AC. Our inverter came with alligator clips that fit onto the posts of one of the batteries. We wired an AC plug that would fit into the socket on the inverter, and then strung wire down to the basement of the guest house. There we connected the wire to an AC switch and a wall outlet with two sockets.

The red and black wires come from the batteries, while the white wire goes to the AC switch and plug downstairs.

Justin gets assistance installing the AC wire, switch, and socket.

We let the solar array charge the batteries for 24 hours, while we checked their status with our multimeter every hour. When they were ready, we plugged in the television and VCR, closed the AC switch, and watched some TV.
